About Acton & Parker Mountain:

Acton, California is a small city located 20 miles northeast from the San Fernando Valley and about 50 miles northeast from Downtown Los Angeles. This small city has a Western-Cowboy-ranchy rural look to itself, which can be seen just by how the homes, commercial buildings, and historical building are built. Although very close, Acton is not a part of the Antelope Valley even though it is included in the "AV's" General Plan. Founded in the year 1887 by a bunch of Gold Miners in the Red Rover Mine, it was named after a city in Massachusetts that is also named Acton. This town first served as a railroad camp for 3 years (1873-1876) when Saugus-Mojave section of the Southern-Pacific railroad was under construction. Acton is also the home of Parker Mountain. Parker Mountain brings lots of miles to hike and scenic views. With over 4,100 feet to it's name you can see mountain range of the San Gabriels and Sierra Pelonas. The LAFCFD (Los Angeles Forest County Forest Department now known as USDA Forest service )built a fire lookout atop Parker Mountain in 1935. But it was only in service until 1969 since fire detection by fire choppers was far more superior in an ever increasing soupy city. 
Parker Mountain has steep Ridgeline  with flyable slopes on both sides, unfortunately there is limited parking around this area & tricky landings. Legend has it that this location is where J. Wertz discovered Dynamic Soaring, crazy huh. ​
